Speaking in Accents to win an argument?

During a relationship, couples find time for love and many more opportunities to fight over issues. If there is no fight, there’s no love. Nonetheless, some couples use a perfect British/American accent to argue in a rather amusing twist. They act as if the accent itself can win the argument. Is this a point of superiority over the other partner, or just a comical diversion?

The logic or context of the discussion is a minor matter. People in a relationship also fight over both trivial and serious issues. Partners often shout over each other. If one partner addresses the other in a different accent, the other person feels inferior. This accent is different from the typical Indian accent.

After so many years, the colonial mindset still holds sway in the Indian diaspora. Many English-speaking native Indians consider anyone with a good vocabulary and a natural/fake British/American accent smart. These tactics are deeply rooted in our colonial past. They are used to outsmart the other person in an argument. The aim is to make them feel less intelligent.

Indian actor Kunal Khemu makes an interesting observation about the topic. He mentioned that when he faces such issues, he promptly goes to the bathroom. There, he checks what has been said to him. His wife’s English is more posh than his, and he can’t have a direct one-on-one accent-wise argument with her!

These linguistic battles, whether they’re funny or satirical, certainly spice things up in the household. In the end, shy, introverted people often don’t win the argument. This adds a touch of humor to the situation.
