Are we really educated?

The primary purpose of education is to gain wisdom, seek knowledge, and, more importantly, achieve common sense. The basics of education lie in attaining humility and having common civic sense in public life. The educated are meant to be more gentlemanly, sober, and civilized.

Nevertheless, if we follow the Indian behavior globally, one can feel ashamed. The atrocious behavior of many Indians is seen both in India and abroad. It is no surprise. Indians have become the most disliked community globally. People are protesting to reclaim their countries. Indians are hard-working and efficient, cheap workers. That’s why all the companies recruit Indian workers for their work ethic and, more importantly, for the lower-cost outsourcing. Indian engineers, scientists, doctors, and other workers work in different positions worldwide.

In recent videos, some devotees are seen breaking coconuts on the streets of Paris. Many make a lot of noise during a Barat or festival celebration, disturbing the whole neighbourhood with their grand show-off. Many were seen dancing on the top of the Burj-khalifa. A woman was caught stealing the Halloween lights in one of the viral videos. Many more such incidents have been reported in which NRIs are seen breaking the country’s local customs and traditions. Many good, law-abiding citizens also follow the rules and cause no nuisance. But the unruly NRIs make a lot of drama, which affects the whole Indian diaspora.

In India, the level of stupidity is astounding. People lack a basic level of civic sense. People often show impatience when standing in a queue in everyday life. They fail to drive safely on the highway and are always in a hurry to get things done. They act uncivilly when getting off an airplane. Some involve themselves in corrupt practices to get ahead of others. Many act insensitively towards elderly or disabled persons. These behaviors have become the norm of excellent Indian manners. To keep the streets and roads clean and the tourist places cleaner- these aren’t taught to us in schools!

To add salt to the wound, the rise in female atrocities has tarnished the reputation of Indian men at home. It has also affected their reputation abroad. Additionally, a sick mentality contributes to this negative perception. The civic sense and Indians don’t go hand in hand. We can’t rebuild our name and reputation if we don’t follow a basic level of civic sense. No matter how much we earn or how great our lives are, our reputation can’t be rebuilt without decorum. To survive and make a living doesn’t create the utmost level of success we aspire to! So, let’s be educated again and follow the basics!
