During floods, giant snakes often take shelter in the jungle along the riverbank to avoid the current. Anandpur is on the bank of the River Baitarani. During floods, many snakes take refuge in the nearby jungles. After the floodwater recedes, the snakes roam the jungle, making it their new home.
In her teenage years, Maa was a free spirit. She spent much time exploring new playgrounds near dense jungles. Her trusting friends accompanied her. In the afternoon, the group would venture out to explore Anandpur town. They sought to find the perfect spot to play their favorite games.
One day, the friend group arrived at a secluded spot near a dense jungle. They began playing, oblivious to their surroundings. Maa was playing a popular game called “Bohu-Chori” with her friends. While playing, she circled a sizable brown tree repeatedly. During this time, she accidentally touched the tree’s trunk. Instead of the wood, she felt the presence of flesh in the tree trunk. Terrified, she backed away from the tree and called in her friends. The group gathered around the tree and began to examine it in detail.
One of Maa’s friends’ elder brothers was passing through the area. Upon hearing the teenagers’ noises, he came ahead to help them and find out what was happening. After hearing the incident, he ventured ahead to examine the tree. He spotted a giant python, camouflaged to match the tree’s color, entangled in a branch.
Horrified by its size, he promptly ordered the teenagers to step back. He called in the forest department, the police, and the locals to rescue the snake. The forest department officials arrived, and 4 to 5 people were needed to forcibly rescue the snake from the tree. It was a humongous snake, about 12-15 feet long, dark brown.
After the rescue, people carried the snake all over Anandpur town. Its face was covered, and five to six sturdy people had held the entire body. The public learned about the giant python lurking in the Anandpur jungles.
When Maa’s parents and relatives heard the snake story from her friends, they grew worried for her safety. After that incident, they strictly prohibited her from seeking adventure and roaming the town. Nevertheless, it was a remarkable, memorable incident.
